It is important to recognise that some pupils have adapted behaviour expectations and behaviour plans or passports linked to their individual needs. Fixed term exclusion Exclusion Very serious incidents including violence or verbal abuse or behaviour threatening the health and safety of others or damage to property are likely to result in a fixed term exclusion.
This gives a clear message, that we can move on and start again, which is an important lesson in life. Text messages will not be sent for this provision, as parents collect or drop off daily, so there is daily contact between parents and staff.
If a purple card is issued on the playground, the senior MMS will bring the pupil to detention and write the incident up in the purple book. Children should never be humiliated by adults in the school community and should always be reassured that in rejecting aspects of their behaviour, we are not rejecting them as individuals.
Secondary school behaviour policy
Refer to our intimate care policy: Statement on the use of Physical Interventions There are occasions when staff will have cause to have physical contact with pupils for a variety of reasons, for example: to comfort a pupil in distress so long as this is appropriate to their age ; to gently direct a pupil; for curricular reasons for example in PE, Drama etc ; in an emergency to avert danger to the pupil or pupils; If handholding is being used by an adult as a method of control to move children, this can become a restraint. A designated time out area will be known to children for red cards. Parents and teachers should develop a joint strategy which can be implemented at home and at school. Where appropriate, arrangements for pupils being delivered to, and collected from the school gate will be clarified. We are consistent in in our approach and follow the same behaviour system steps throughout the school. These are monitored by the learning mentor and all staff working with the pupil should know and implement the agreed strategies for that pupil. Parents will always be notified if their child has either been the victim or the perpetrator of any such behaviour. This policy is designed to encourage good behaviour, rather than merely deter anti-social behaviour. Action taken when bullying is suspected If bullying is suspected we talk to the suspected victim, the suspect bully and any witnesses.
Restraint of children is only used when: a child is at risk of hurting themselves or others; is damaging property or is seriously disrupting the learning of others.
While suspension should be a proportionate response to the behaviour that is causing concern, a single instance of serious misbehaviour may be grounds for suspension.
This policy aims to help children grow in a safe and secure environment, and to become positive, responsible and increasingly independent members of the school community. If a child misbehaves repeatedly in class, the class teacher keeps a record of all such incidents.
